Product Overview
This charger board is based on the bq25185 power management IC and is designed for charging single-cell Lithium-Ion, Lithium-Polymer, or LiFePO4 batteries. It supports multiple power sources including USB, DC input, and solar panels. The board also provides power-path management so the load can be powered while the battery is charging.
It is suitable for portable electronics, battery powered projects, and solar powered systems.
Supported Battery Types
• Li-Ion
• Li-Polymer
• LiFePO4 (configurable)
Charging Sources
• USB Type-C input (5 V)
• External DC input (5 V to 18 V)
• Solar panel input (5 V to 7 V recommended)
Charging Current Options
• 1 A default
• 500 mA selectable
• 250 mA selectable
(Current is set using onboard jumpers)
Battery Voltage Configuration
• 3.7 V nominal / 4.2 V max for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer
• 3.2 V nominal / 3.65 V max for LiFePO4
(Battery chemistry selectable using jumpers)
Power Path Management
The board automatically manages power between the input source and the battery.
• Load is powered from USB, DC, or solar when available
• Excess current is used to charge the battery
• Battery supplies additional current if load demand exceeds 1 A
• Supports current spikes up to 3 A from the battery
Load Output
• Regulated output, maximum 4.5 V
• Output voltage follows battery level when input power is removed
• Output range approximately 3.0 V to 4.5 V
Indicators and Control
• Charging status LED
• Fault indicator LED
• Power good LED
• Charger enable pin
• Charge and fault signal breakout pads
Thermal Protection
• Optional external 10K thermistor support
• Automatically reduces charging current to prevent battery overheating
Additional Features
• USB Type-C connector with proper CC resistors
• Mounting holes for secure installation
• Battery voltage and load voltage monitoring pads
Typical Applications
• Portable electronics
• Battery powered microcontroller projects
• Solar powered devices
• IoT and low power systems
• Prototyping and development boards
Usage Notes
• Designed for single-cell batteries only
• Load output will never exceed 4.5 V
• Battery and load voltage drop as battery discharges
• Solar panels above 7 V provide no benefit and increase heat
