The MCP3008 is a widely used 8-channel, 10-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) IC designed for microcontroller and microcomputer projects. It is particularly popular with Raspberry Pi users, as the Pi lacks built-in ADC capability. By using SPI communication and requiring only four pins, the MCP3008 makes it simple to interface analog sensors like LM35 temperature sensors, LDRs, potentiometers, and thermistors with digital systems. Packaged in a breadboard-friendly DIP format, this IC is perfect for prototyping and educational projects, offering reliable and accurate conversion of analog signals to digital values for real-time data processing. MCP3008 is one of the famous Analog to Digital converter IC. This chip will add 8 channels of 10-bit analog input to your microcontroller or microcomputer project. It's super easy to use, and uses SPI so only 4 pins are required. We chose this chip as a great accompaniment to the Raspberry Pi computer, because its fun to have analog inputs but the Pi does not have an ADC.
Analog input is crucial in getting data from sensors. Many sensors are analog example LM35 (temperature sensor), Potentiometer (position), LDR (light), Thermistors(temperature) and many more. MCP3008 is famous to provide the analog input to digital only Raspberry Pi.
