Description

The QRE1113 breakout board offers a digital output solution, utilizing a capacitor discharge circuit to assess reflection levels. This compact board is designed for line sensing applications, particularly suitable when only digital I/O pins are available in the system. It is compatible with both 3.3V and 5V systems, providing versatility in various electronic projects.

The sensor features an IR emitting LED and an IR sensitive phototransistor. When power is supplied to the VCC and GND pins, the IR LED illuminates, and the phototransistor detects the reflected IR light. A 100Ω resistor limits the current to the LED, ensuring safe operation. The output of the phototransistor is connected to a 10nF capacitor, and the rate of discharge of this capacitor is indicative of the surface reflectivity.

Commonly employed in line-following robots, these sensors distinguish between white and black surfaces based on light reflection levels. White surfaces reflect more light, resulting in faster capacitor discharge compared to black surfaces.

The board features a 3-pin, 0.1" pitch header for convenient power input and output connections. Additionally, it includes a single mounting hole for secure installation onto surfaces.
