The ATECC608 is a hardware-based secure element (crypto-authentication IC) designed to safely store cryptographic keys and perform secure operations inside the chip itself. Unlike standard microcontrollers, secret keys stored inside the ATECC608 cannot be read out, even if firmware or memory is compromised. All cryptographic operations are handled internally using challenge–response methods, ensuring strong protection against cloning, firmware extraction, and hardware attacks.
Product Description
The ATECC608 is a hardware-based secure element (crypto-authentication IC) designed to safely store cryptographic keys and perform secure operations inside the chip itself. Unlike standard microcontrollers, secret keys stored inside the ATECC608 cannot be read out, even if firmware or memory is compromised. All cryptographic operations are handled internally using challenge–response methods, ensuring strong protection against cloning, firmware extraction, and hardware attacks.
This breakout board exposes the ATECC608 over a simple I2C interface, making it easy to integrate into embedded systems, IoT devices, and secure products. Once configured and locked, the chip supports ECDH key exchange, AES-128 encryption/decryption, SHA-256 hashing, HMAC authentication, and true hardware random number generation.
The board includes onboard support circuitry and a STEMMA QT / Qwiic compatible JST-SH connector, allowing solder-free, plug-and-play connection with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, STM32, and other I2C-capable platforms. It works with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems.
